Hi, I
have an Orange SPV M5000, but unfortunately managed to crack the
screen. Rather than faff about with sending the phone off to be
repaired and paying £stupid for the priveledge (no insurance as I've
never lost, broken or had a phone stolen in many years of use), I opted
for an early upgrade. I wanted the HTC Touch Dual, but it wasn't
available on Orange at the time, so I opted for the HTC Touch instead,
knowing that my wife was due for an upgrade a few months later and we
could swap. What I didn't appreciate however, is that Orange only dish out 3.5G USIMS with 3.5G phones they themselves provide to you. So once my wife received her upgrade, we swapped devices and I now have a Touch Dual. I
phoned customer services asking for a 3.5G USIM and they refused. I'm
now stuck with a 3.5G phone using only 2.5G connection with an 18 month
contract to boot. I AM a high volume user (Orange themselves have told me this), spending between £50 and £100 every month. Any ideas? Posted 15:57 17 Apr 08 by aaran76 Im confused - if you have a HTC Touch that is not a 3 G phone anyway? |
The Touch only has 2.5G (i.e. Edge) + WIFI. The Touch Dual has 3.5G (i.e. HSDPA) with no WIFI. :) |
yes
exactly - but you said you opted for the Touch (i.e. 2.5G) but then you
say ur stuck with a 3.5G phone without the right SIM. Somethings
confused because it makes no sense? |
LOL...sorry. You're kinda right in that I didn't make it clear. I upgraded my phone to the Touch. Then,
a few months later, my wife upgraded hers to the Touch Dual and we
swapped phones. Therefore I NOW have the Touch Dual (3.5G) but Orange
won't give me a USIM card. Is that better? |
ok. Well they should give you a 3G sim. Tell them that youve bought a new phone and its 3G Try
someone else at customer services, i find different representatives can
tell u different things. Some of them are idiots, but get someone wih
any common sense and they will give u what u want. If they dont give u it, they deserve to loose ur business |
I will try again. See what they say. Cheers... If anyone else has any other ideas, please let me know! I need my 3.5G!!!!! |
So. Orange definitely won't give me a new 3G sim...and I still have abount 15 months of an 18 month contract left. Gutted. Anyone else have any similar problems, or even better, a solution to the problem??? |
mental note to not use Orange again! Plus
3G on Orange isnt that great in many places so ur not really loosing
out. Edge is often nearly as quick - why do u want 3G so much, r u
intending to Video call?! |
Not
so much video call, but being a web developer, it'd be great to have
mobile broadband speeds to allow me to have a usable VPN connection to
work/home from wherever I am. |

sure you have tried it, but have you asked to speak to a manager? If
that fails, try going to an Orange shop when they are nice and quiet
and being very nice, asking them to ring dealer support for you. I had
a similar thing when the N95 came out, it took some real dreeping to
dealer support but they can do it eventually |
00:45 24 Jun 08 39 Posts it support Here's what I've done in this situation: I
received a 'spare' emergency sim card from orange once 'just in case'
that doubled as a discount card on accys in orange shops. I was
able to use this sim number with a different line on my orange account
despite it being 'assigned' as a spare for my main number. So,
tell orange that your wife's sim is showing 'sim card not recognised'
on a few different phones. They'll post you a new sim for free if you
say the right things but won't cut the existing one off just yet until
you ring up once the new one is received. When you get it put it to one
side for a bit, then a few weeks later ring the number given ( usually
a different call centre than for customer services) and get them 'sim
swop' it onto your account. Hope this helps. Richard p.s
you have to run through similar hoops for their PAYG sims. IIRC they
are the only telco that differentiates the sim provisioning. Annoying.
